Melissa started dancing at the age of 4 at The Glens Falls Ballet and Dance Center. Over the course of her 14 years of training at the studio she studied ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop and contemporary dance under Carlene Poster, Kim Mclapine, Robert Maiorano, Bethany Osborn and Katie Langdon. After high school, Melissa pursued her passion for dance by studying at The College at Brockport State University of New York. Here, she received two Bachelor of Science Degrees in both Dance and Interdisciplinary Arts for Children (May 2016). The College at Brockport provided her with a versatile and diverse training in dance, performance, and education through various art forms. Melissa's areas of expertise include; modern technique, ballet, Bartenieff Fundamentals, Laban Analysis, dance improvisation, African dance, creative dance, composition/choreography, and somatics. Throughout Melissa's education, she was very active in the Brockport Dance Department where she danced in a variety performances choreographed by faculty, guest artists, and fellow students. Some of these performances include DANCESCORE, Dance Hartwell, Dance Strasser, Movement Research at Eden's Expressway and SANKOFA. Melissa also choreographed several dances for the departmental performances, was a member of the Brockport Dance Team, and volunteered as a dance instructor for the Brockport F.A.C.T.S Program (Autism Awareness). Melissa is excited to be part of the team at The Glens Falls Ballet and Dance Center and hopes to inspire and bring happiness to individuals through the art of dance.
