Originally from Reading, PA. She graduated from Philadelphia College of Performing Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Dance Education, and has danced with the Philadelphia Dance Ensemble, Philadelphia Dance Co. (Philadanco)

She has had intensive study of Classical Ballet, Modern Dance, and Jazz Dance. She has studied with Andre Pap - Romanian Ballet Co., Peter Bertini - Garth Fagan Dance Co., Nadia Chilkovsky Nahamick, world renowned "Dance Notator," Jo Jo Smith, Frank Hatchett, Pat Sorerio - Steps NYC, Manfred Fishbeck - Group Motion Dance Co. (Philadelphia), Hortense Kolooris - Duncan Institute, Julia Levin - Duncan Institute, Tally Beatty - Alvin Ailey Dance Co.

Carlene has visited numerous Caribbean Islands and has studied their cultural dances, bringing home a cultural flavor which she incorporates into her classes and choreography.

She has directed dance programs for Plattsburgh State Summer Figure Skating School. Carlene was the first dance educator in the Philadelphia Public Schools (working primarily in the ghettos). It was there that Carlene developed an interest in cultural dance. Ms. Poster began teaching at the Glens Falls Ballet Center in 1979 under the directorship of Oleg Briansky, before becoming Director of the school in 1981.

Ms. Poster holds advanced certification from the Dance Notation Bureau in New York City and has presented lectures on Dance Notation at the National Dance Museum in Saratoga.

Carlene has instructed dance for the BOCES Enrichment Program and Adirondack Community College Enrichment Program. She also fits & molds diabetics for diabetic footwear in conjunction with her husband's practice.

Many of Carlene's dancers have gone on to pursue professional dance careers and educations. Carlene's students have been accepted into NYS Summer School of the Arts program, Boston Ballet Summer Program, Alvin Ailey Summer Programs, Avodah Dance Company and Ithaca Ballet Company.

Locally, she has taught Master Classes for dancers on tour with Sesame Street, Alvin & the Chipmunks, Up with People, Lake George Dinner Theatre, and the Lake George Opera. She critiqued rehearsals for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Opening U.S. Tour in 1991. Some of Carlene's works have been commissioned by other local dance companies.

Carlene is founder of the Glens Falls Dance Company and the Adirondack Repertory Dance Theatre.
